The Switch to Raw Food, My Story
I came upon the raw food lifestyle completely by divine intervention. I wasn’t searching for it, I felt no need to improve my eating habits. I was fully satisfied with the way things were. As a matter of fact, I had always considered myself to be a relatively healthy eater and all around healthy person, but such was apparently not the
case.
It was February 2006. I was in the first trimester of my sixth pregnancy and under the care of a wonderful and capable midwife. To make a long story short, because of some serious health issues that were going on with my digestive system, and to avoid hospitalization and surgery while pregnant, I was strongly encouraged to “go raw.” I have never heard of such a thing before, but was determined to do whatever it took to keep me out of the hospital and keep my baby healthy. After a three day juice fast and including other supplements and super foods in my diet, all symptoms of the condition disappeared.
So, literally went from having Little Caesar’s Pizza one night to going raw, cold turkey the next day. It was tough, pretty much torturous, but once I got over the first few weeks, it wasn’t so bad. And once I discovered there was actually more to eating raw then dry salads, apples, and carrot sticks, I was doing pretty good!
And so, here I am, years later, still living the raw food lifestyle and loving it. I love food. I love eating, and I love creating delicious healing foods to partake of and share.
My History with Essential Oils:
As a young mother, I was at a loss. My toddler had been suffering with reoccurring ear infections for months. Not knowing any other options, I’d take him to the doctor, get a prescription, give him the antibiotics for 10 days, deal with fighting him to swallow his medicine, then diarrhea and diaper rash that were always the result of the amoxicillin, and then, to my frustration, I’d have to take him back the doctor within weeks when the infection came back and we’d start the cycle all over. It was to the point that the pediatrician recommended putting him on a constant dose of antibiotics to insure the ear infections wouldn’t return. I thanked him and left the office and no prescription in hand this time. There had to be another way, something out there, somewhere, there had to be something that worked better than what I’d been using.
Thankfully, that’s when God stepped in and sent me an answer to my prayers. Upon hearing of my plight, a kind neighbor came to my door with an offer to help. He told me a little about essential oils, applied some to my sons feet, left me with a bottle, and was on his way. To my complete amazement, the oils worked. After just one day, he’d stopped complaining about his ears, and by the third day, any symptoms of an ear infection where gone. And that was that. I continued applying Lavender to his feet on a regular basis, and he continued to be healthy and infection free!
I am forever grateful to my loving neighbor and now close friend for sharing with me his “at home remedy” that completely changed my life and the lives of my family.
That was about 13 years ago. Since my first experience with essential oils, I have used and studied aromatherapy faithfully, practicing on myself and my family with great success! Having spent over 100 formal classroom hours studying medical aromatherapy, I can confidently use essential oils to treat pretty much all the ills that life has thrown at us, physical or emotional. Essential oils are truly an amazing gift from God.
